"The Road" Blog 4

The book is not very dramatic, the only real big issues the man and his son have are the issues of who you can trust, the shortage of food and the struggle to not go insane.

The first conflict in the book was an internal conflict, the father was the one who had struggle with that one. He didn’t know if he should put a bullet in his and his son’s head because of the risk of being captured and eaten or raped. This conflict grew even bigger when the mother (who killed herself before the story took place) tried to convince him to do it.

There is also some external conflicts through the book. The one which is worth writing about is the one between the man, his son and the other people they encounter on the road. For example, there was a man who drew his knife on the boy to trick the father into joining his companions at their truck. The father who didn’t trust any individuals they met or saw on the road shot one of the two bullets they had right through the head of the man. This  solution led to another internal conflict. When the dad only had one bullet left he couldn’t kill both his son and himself if they had been captured. Lucky enough they didn’t get captured and therefore didn’t need to use the last bullet.
