A thousand splendid suns - Fourth blog post

Even though the book covers three decades of anti-Soviet conflicts, civil war and Taliban tyranny, the main conflict in this story is about women being discriminated for who they are. This is very interesting seeing that this is something that still is an ongoing problem in theese parts of the world.

The conflict begins with an external struggle, Mariam and her mother already live by what I see as bad standards. They didn't get to live in jalil's house, but instaid had to live in a shack outside. They never received the love of a proper family, and even though Jalil was very wealthy, he didn't give anything to Mariam nor to Nana.

Mariam has to face a hard internal conflict, which results in a big turningpoint in the book early on. She knew who her father was, and she loved being with him, but didn't know that he would just leave her and get her married off to the much older man Rasheed.

The conflict of the book has now turned back to a very external point, Rasheed starts to abuse Mariam and hit her because she couldn't give him a child. He later takes Laila as a second whife, who herself has also gone through a lot of external conflicts seeing that almost all the people in her life has died in the war.
